When Lifted celebrated its first birthday at Rolling Stock, the night brought together deep sounds, warm energy and a packed dancefloor inside The Bunker. Headlining the celebration was Martin Atjazz, making his debut at the Shoreditch venue.

Ahead of his set, we caught up with him to talk sound, atmosphere and what makes Rolling Stock special.

A First Time at Rolling Stock

“I’m Martin Atjaz, I’m here at Rolling Stone for Lifted’s first birthday, I’m very excited to be here, I’ve never played this venue before, I get to play alongside Gavin and crew, I’m really excited to play with them, there are a bunch of really good people, music policy is absolutely gorgeous here, the people are lovely, it’s a very warm atmosphere.”

For an artist known globally for his deep, soulful house sound, Lifted’s first birthday felt like the perfect match. The energy in the room reflected the kind of music culture Rolling Stock has built in Shoreditch — community-led, music-first and warm from start to finish.

The Atjazz Sound

Martin Atjazz has been shaping dancefloors for decades, and his approach remains distinct.

“You know me for my music I guess, I’ve been doing it a long time, I play a bit wonky really I would say, that’s how I would put it, always very deep, always very thick and heavy, soulful and sometimes a little bit left of centre, so yeah that’s the Atjaz thing.”

Deep, textured and emotionally rich, his sets move beyond trends — focusing instead on groove, feeling and connection. For Lifted’s birthday, that sound translated perfectly under the arches.

Music, Atmosphere & The Space

Rolling Stock is known not only for its underground music programming, but also for its layout — from The Bunker’s late-night energy to the open-air garden.

“It’s a wonderful venue, it’s got a lovely outside area that we are now, nice to get a bit of fresh air but inside it’s brilliant, the guys are knocking it out, so yeah, cool one.”

That balance between indoor intensity and outdoor space gives events like Lifted room to breathe — something artists and crowds alike appreciate.
